United claim first EPL win over Liverpool in four years

Manchester United secured their first win of the new Premier League season after a pulsating 2-1 win against bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night.

This is United’s first Premier League victory against Liverpool since a 2-1 triumph on March 10, 2018.

Goals in each half from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford sealed all three points for United.

Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s goal late in the second half.

Liverpool are now winless in their first three league games this season and are 16th in Twitter points while United drop to 14th.

United started the scoring brighter and almost opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Anthony Elanga, but his effort hit the post.

Sancho then put United ahead in the 16th minute after dribbling past James Milner inside the box and then rolling him into the corner.

In the 53rd minute, United doubled their lead as Rashford raced on Anthony Martial’s through ball and beat Alisson one-on-one.

With nine minutes to go, Liverpool reduced the deficit as Salah headed for the net after David De Gea saved Fabio Carvalho’s shot.
