Tinubu, Wike Meet In London As PDP Reconciliation Drags

In a series of internal negotiations within the PDP, the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, and his party on Monday met with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed. Tinubu in London.

Although the details of the meeting are still murky at the time of writing, the LEADERSHIP gathered is to promote political change ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The meeting which is said to have triggered a possible exit from a major anti-government party in our country comes as efforts are being made to continue the peace process between Wike and who – PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, which has finally started. weeks after months of conflict.

Efforts by the PDP leadership to pacify Wike and his supporters failed as Atiku ignored him and chose the incumbent of Delta State, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate in the 2023 election.

Wike’s request to sack the PDP national chairman, Sen Iyorchia Ayu, as part of the peace process has yet to be accepted by the party.

Wike and Tinubu were said to have met in France earlier, which is said to have been denounced by members of Tinubu and PDP leader Adamu Waziri Maina.

But since the conflict started, Wike has called on many APC leaders in Rivers State to work, making it seem that he is with the ruling party.

But a confidant within the APC who confirmed the meeting between Tinubu and Wike said the two APC governors were present.

“I can confirm that the meeting took place in London yesterday (Monday) and the two South West APC governors attended,” the source said.

It was learned that Wike and some of his colleagues went to Paris, France on Sunday where they met the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.

Among those who traveled with Wike were Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom; Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu.

It is also said that after a short meeting in Paris, the governors moved to London.

LEADERSHIP recalls that at the PDP apology meeting in Port-Harcout last Friday, Wike’s subordinates insisted that Ayu has abandoned him as the party’s president in our country.

Although Atiku’s supporters do not agree with what Wike is asking Ayu, some party leaders have joined the ‘Ayu must go’ campaign.

It was discovered that the national chairman of the PDP (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, could be recommended to be the chairman of the country pending the midterm convention.

Wike’s loyalist denied having any conversation with Tinubu

But loyalists of the Rivers state governor yesterday said they are not aware of any meeting between the governor’s camp and the presidential candidate of the APC in France.

A former member of the House of Assembly, Chief Ogbonna Nweke, who denied knowing that he was speaking at an evening meeting with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, said, “To tell you the truth, we are not aware of any organization. between Governor Wike and Tinubu. Actually, I’m hearing it for the first time.”

Efforts by our reporter to get the response of the governor’s assistant in the media department, Kelvin Ebiri, failed, because he did not call his phone or respond to messages sent to his phone.
