Esther Onyenezide says she has yet to recover from Falconets’ elimination at this year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

The Falconets’ hopes of securing a first-ever U-20 World Cup title ended after a 2-0 loss to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

The team led by Christopher Danjuma entered the match as favorites after finishing top of their group which included France, South Korea and Canada.

But the Netherlands emerged victorious with two goals in the first half.

And reflecting on the Falconets’ exit, Onyenezide wrote on Twitter: “Still in tears and pain as our #U20WWC campaign came to an abrupt end. Had high hopes and faith in our chances but God knows best.

“Despite everything, I’m grateful for the exposure and experience gained from my first appearance at @FIFAWWC. Means a lot. To you, thank you for your support.

Onyenezide was the Falconets’ top scorer at the tournament with three goals and won two Player of the Match awards.
